The Claim

SOmetime during the second half of this year Intel plans to officially announce the next-generation x86 compatible processor. Some details of this processor (for now known as the P6) have alreade been made public (see http://www.intel.com/procs/p6) Over the past 15 years, virtually every x86 processor has been released around the $1000 price point. However, the P6 will be built in a "dual cavity" carrier and will feature an onboard 256k or 512k L2 cache. This has prompted some people to claim that Intel will not be able to reach that price point. This claim will be found true if the Intel P6 (whatever the final name is) will be initially priced at a unit price of less than $975 for orders of 1000 units or more. YES coupons will be worth $1.00 each if the initial price is $975 or below, and will lose $.01o f value for each dollar above that price, but will be worthless if the price is aboce $1025.

Judge's Statement

None.
