The upcoming movie, titled in the USA "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone", will gross more, worldwide, than the other upcoming fantasy movie "The Fellowship of the Ring" during the first year of theatrical release.
For the scope of this claim only revenue from theatrical showings will be used (merchandise, TV rights etc. are excluded). The exact time interval to consider is left to be decided by the claim judge, depending on the source of data s/he will choose to use.
I intend to use the figures from Variety Magazine to evaluate this claim. I will used the revenue figures for the first year of each film.
