Current president of Russia Yeltsin can stay in power until 2000 according to the constitution. However, due to the political reasons or the death of Yeltsin a new person will be the head of Russia before scheduled elections. His official title does not need to be a president. Criteria for determining that this person is the head are: he should be commander in chief of the armed forces; he can represent Russia during official international top-level meetings.
